I think that living life to the fullest takes more than mentality or money. It depends on the point of view from which we look at it.
If we analyse it better, or if we remember an illness (mild or severe), we can clearly see how a healthy body is what allows us to do the vast majority of things we want to do in life.
Being healthy is not a fad or a trend topic, although it may be, but it goes far beyond that. The definition of being healthy, according to the world health organization (WHO), refers to “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”. Leading a healthy lifestyle is the way to reach that state, and even to improve it.
When I talk about lifestyle, I mean the way we live, the values on which we base our decisions. And the values are the principles or standards of behavior, the perception of what is important in life. Everyone has their own, however, our perceptions come from information we receive throughout life. This can be another post alone, so let’s continue with lifestyle…
Unfortunately, the healthy topic is clouded by misinformation, beliefs and half-truths that benefit just a few. For example, if, before prescribing a medication, doctors told us what the possible side effects are, and what are our alternatives to achieve that same drug’s objective, I think we would make different decisions. Or if from a young age we were told that physical exercise not only strengthens the muscles, but also the bones, the cardiovascular and nervous systems, and even improves concentration and mood; If we grew up believing that the elderly can be strong and that part of human deterioration is not natural over the years, but is a consequence of life habits?
Ernestine Shepherd, 84 years old today, the world’s oldest veteran bodybuilder, or Arnold Schwarzenegger, 72, are not superhumans! Ernestine started training to be a bodybuilder at age 56! And although Schwarzenegger was already training at 14 , both affirm that they feel young, capable, and consider physical activity to be very important in their lives.
It is unbelievable to think (to know) that the main causes of death in the world are preventable! Heart disease, type 2 diabetes and many types of cancer are consequences of our lifestyle… leading a healthy lifestyle is the way to prevent, treat, and in some cases reverse these diseases. Why knowing this, people don’t act on it? And they just limit themselves to being sentenced to take medicines for life, living frustrated or to die early?
It is not only the absence of disease, when we lead a healthy lifestyle, we feel better! With ourselves and with those around us. You know why? Because being healthy is staying well! If you think you are healthy and don’t feel as good, you may need to change something.
We not only feel better. We look better! By leading a healthy lifestyle, you automatically reach a healthy weight, improve your energy levels, your skin, your hair, your nails look and feel better! What is the point of spreading cream on your face, or taking supplements, if you don’t eat well?… Has it happened to you that you see some people after a long time and they seem to stay young? What do you think these people do? … I could bet that most of them have changed their life habits, or have maintained the good ones over time.
Some people think that all this is very superficial, that the physical image does not matter or that “we all are going to die from something”. I have heard this many times, however, it is one thing to die because it is the nature of life, and another to suffer an illness or dissatisfactions created by your lifestyle. Although, if you are one of those who cares little about themselves, but much about others, I tell you that the decisions you are making regarding your lifestyle, also affect the planet and the resources available to new generations. So if you have children, nephews, grandchildren, or you care about what we are leaving for the future, keep in mind that both the transport of food from one country to another, and the industrialisation of animal origin products, is more than that we can afford as a planet. And reducing the consumption of these, not only helps to maintain the health of your body, but also the balance of your own ecosystem.
For this reason, what I have made as my mission in life, is to make this a healthier world. Because it’s not just me or those around me. I firmly believe that if I contribute my knowledge and experience to change one person’s life, I am helping to change the lives of several people! And those of new generations too. And at the same time, helping to preserve the planet earth natural resources… Does this sound pretentious to you? It is.
Since becoming a certified health and fitness coach, I have officially helped more than 20 people make changes in their lives. As a result, these people feel more energised, better about themselves, have adopted new habits, and have worked to achieve their goals. Those who have children are transferring this to their little ones and to their partners, mothers, brothers and sisters. It is a multiplier effect!
Many other people have told me about their reflections, decisions and small adjustments in their lifestyles, thanks to my obsession with healthy eating, exercise and other healthy habits. Which for some might seem a bit too much.
I don’t mean to upset anyone, and the reason why I lead a healthy lifestyle myself is to continue to exist, and I don’t want it just for myself. I want to continue having the energy to help, multiply, guide more people on their way to self-discipline, self-confidence and self-management. Educate in the building of healthy habits, so that they can live better and impact their environments with their WELL-BEING ✨🍃💜
